The Spotlight in Your Business

I can remember the many times I’ve wanted to be in the spotlight. I’ve wanted people to notice me as a child and even as an adult.

For my entire childhood I felt like I was always overshadowed by my energetic, outgoing, loved-by-all sister. I was the quiet - unless I was having an emotional breakdown (temper tantrum) - and shy one. Being younger I think people expected me to be just like her.

But God made us different.

I wanted to be social and have groups of friends. I wanted to be noticed by others. But that wasn’t how things were.

This same thought has been with me in life and in my business. I’ve spent time building a business so that people would notice me.

There I said it.

But God stepped in.

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10, NIV)

God started showing me that it's not about me - imagine that!

I definitely wasn’t doing this right.

I need to focus on God and pointing to Him.

🩷 I don’t need the spotlight.

🩷 I don’t need to seek the attention of others.

My life and my business are about Jesus and being able to say, “This is ALL God.”

🩷 It’s God who gave me the talents to create.

🩷 It’s God who provided the opportunity to leave teaching.

🩷 It’s God who whispered, “Make it a business.”

IT’S ALL GOD! 🙌

I don’t always get it right everyday. I’m a work in progress and Philippians 2:13 (NLT) says,

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Your business is connected to your faith. God gave us the gifts and talents to run a business so let’s remember that we are working for the Lord and not the world. He gets the spotlight in our business.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. (Colossians 3:23, NIV)

Prayer: Thank you Jesus for showing me that my business and my life are not about me. I know I can get caught up in doing things so I will benefit or be recognized. Help me to hear your voice instead of the world’s when it comes to running my business. I want to point it all to you. In Jesus name. Amen.
